ABOUT LIN FANGLU

Born in China, Fanglu Lin holds both a BA and MFA in Artistic Design from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. During her studies, she undertook exchange programs at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in Germany and Tokyo University of the Arts in Japan.

Lin’s practice is rooted in a deep engagement with the material traditions and cultural heritage of China’s ethnic minorities. Her recent work focuses on the endangered tie-dye techniques of Bai women in Yunnan and the Dong people’s handcrafted “liangbu” textiles in Guizhou. Through repeated visits and close collaboration with local female artisans, Lin translates these traditional techniques into contemporary fiber-based artworks that speak to memory, identity, and the resilience of craft.

Her work has been featured in major international exhibitions, including ‘Dimensions: Contemporary Chinese Studio Crafts’, (Victoria and Albert Museum, London), Homo Faber 2024 (Michelangelo Foundation, Venice), LOEWE: Crafted World (LOEWE Foundation, Shanghai Exhibition Center), the NGV Triennial (National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne), Sculpting the Senses (Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris), as well as exhibitions at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum, Power Station of Art, West Bund Museum, Xinjiang Art Museum, Aurora Museum, and CHANEL Culture Fund in China. Recent solo exhibitions include It’s All About Her (Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art, Saint Petersburg, 2025), She’s Body (Art+ Shanghai Gallery, Shang-

hai, 2023), The Power of Binding and Weaving (Samgaksan Geumam Museum of Art, Seoul, 2023), and Threads of Change (Art+ Shanghai Gallery, Shanghai, 2022).

In 2021, Lin was awarded the prestigious LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize. Her artworks have been collected by renowned institutions including the Victoria and Albert Museum (London, UK) , the Swatch Art Peace Hotel under the Swatch Group (Switzerland), the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, France), the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne, Australia), the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art (St. Petersburg, Russia), the Samgaksan Geumam Museum of Art (Seoul,Korea), The Peninsula Hotels (Hong Kong), the Hyatt Hotels Corporation (Chicago, USA), and the An Museum (Shanghai, China).
